The Yangtze and Yellow Rivers are collectively known as the mother rivers of Chinese culture, nurturing the Yangtze and Yellow River civilizations. The Yangtze River Civilization boasts the world's largest geographical area, the greatest number and density of cultural sites, including most of the Hushu culture in Jiangsu and Shanghai, and the Hemudu culture in central Zhejiang. The Yangtze River Civilization, particularly its rice-cultivating aspects, has had a significant impact on East Asia and the world.
