Tibet Tourism,Tibet boasts over 300 tourist attractions, with Lhasa as its center, forming a comprehensive tourism development and utilization pattern that radiates throughout the region.
Zhano, Deputy Director of the Tibet Autonomous Region Tourism Bureau, stated that currently, with the exception of a very few monasteries temporarily closed for protection and maintenance, the vast majority of tourist attractions in Tibet are open to visitors and possess strong reception capacity.
Tibet possesses eight national 4A-level tourist attractions, including the Potala Palace, Norbulingka, the Tibet Museum, and Basum Tso Lake; six national nature reserves, including the Qiangtang Nature Reserve, the Yarlung Tsangpo Grand Canyon Nature Reserve, and the Selin Tso Nature Reserve; and abundant tourism resources such as Lhasa, a renowned tourist city in China, and the historical and cultural cities of Shigatse and Gyantse.
Furthermore, Tibet has developed a number of tourism products with local characteristics and ethnic flavor, such as the Shoton Festival, the Yarlung Cultural Festival, the Qiangtang Horse Racing Festival, the Mount Everest Tourism and Culture Festival, and the Nyingchi Peach Blossom Festival.
Zha Nuo said that Tibet is developing tourism resources around two main themes: distinctive culture and natural ecology. It is making every effort to create four tourism loops around Lhasa, Nyingchi, Shigatse, Gyantse and Damxung, as well as two major tourism corridors: the Tang-Tibet Ancient Road and the Tea Horse Road.
